General Adoption
Post questions or comments about parenting issues, the adoption process, infertility issues, domestic, DSS or international adoptions, transracial/transcultural issues, educational/school/learning issues, single parenting, etc.
We are in the early stages.. We are waiting for the aug classes. we have filed our application/and background info and our fingerprints have come back.
Hello! Is it true that the best path to adopt through DSS is to first become a foster parent? If true, seems like a painfully long time--I heard minimum of 15 mos.--before adoption phase could begin.
Not necessarily. We did a straight adoption with low legal risk through DSS. From start to finish, it took about 10 months. We got a 2 1/2 yr old African-American boy.
Congratulations and thanks for your reply. I'm struggling with the best path for me--your son's (don't you love that word?) age is what I've been considering. I'll contact DSS next--thanks again!
We are considering adopting a sibling group from DSS. Does anyone have any experience with this kind of adoption?
We are also an older couple with biological children, some grown and out of the house. Personal insights from others in the same type of situation would be appreciated.
Looking to adopt through DSS. I have only attended the informational meeting and feel lost. I have a huge list of items to comeplete (paperwork) and then 14 hours of training. I am a planner and want to know I'm doing the right things. Any advise or help would be appreciated!
I am currently going through DSS for an adoption. So far I've only attended the informational meeting and am looking for more info and advise on adoption. Can anyone help? Feeling lost.
Adoption Coalition for Education and Support (ACES) is the comprehensive adoptive family resource in SC. We strive to build strong adoptive families by collaborating with public, domestic and international adoption-related organizations to promote community awareness and provide families with training and support. Our vision is that SC will have stronger, more stable adoptive families that have an education and support network.
